Innsbruck sallet and klappvisor bascinet raised in one piece

Hi everyone.
Today I will write only in English, because me and Thorkil are very busy before our trip in July. Here are another 2 of our newest helmets.

Sallet based on original piece produced in Innsbruck (1495).

1) hand forged, as always
2) visor - hot-forged with charcoal. a une piece!!!
3) thickness of steel : bowl 2,5mm medium-carbon steel; visor 2mm spring steel; neck - 1,5mm medium-carbon steel,
4) unfortunately, the bowl has been welded, but our customer couldn't afford raised in one piece bowl
5) high-polished, unfortunately , that was customer's wish.

Swiss klappvisor bascinet based on original piece from Valeria Castle in Sion a une piece!!!


1) bascinet raised in one piece of steel and visor raised in one piece of steel, so no welding!!!
2) hot-forging on charcoal
3) hot forged hinge
4) medium-carbon steel
5) Thorkil has start forging with 3mm steel. In ready helmet thickness of steel vary in different points of the helmet. at the top it is about 2,6mm and edges has about 1,4 - 1,2mm
6) satin finished
7) weight - circa 2900 g

Wonderfull work.

I love this type of sallet. It is strange because I can shave using it as a mirror!
Are you able to hand-forge such a bowl in one piece? How do you name this type of visor without holes for the view? (In french: "vue couvrée").

Désolé mais Thorkil qui comprend fort bien le français s'est expliqué du choix de la langue de son post.

J'aime particulièrement ses casques de la période de Vendel, mais à voir ceux-ci...

"Copie d'une pièce exposée à Sion"....j'enrage, j'y étais hier et je n'ai même pas fait un tour au musée.

j'aime beaucoup voir le paysage dans le reflet d'un casque, c'est très artistique, je trouve ^^

et quand ledit casque est magnifique, ça ne fait qu'ajouter au plaisir!
