Some of you should remember the Hospitaller costume than I illustrated in the forum some months ago... http://guerriers-du-moyen-age.aceboard. ... -Italy.htm

Well... Gianfilippo of the "Compagnia del Fiore d'Argento", gave me the last piece that I commissioned to his friend: the sheath and belt for my sword, while the shield and the painting of the italo-norman helmet with mask are the work of Francesco (member of the "Villaggio Medievale" forum)....

I must still complete the hauberk, camail and spear...

Voilà quelques images:
Here some pictures:

Notevole!!! Veramente notevole!!! Complimenti!

Remarkable!!! very remarkable!!! Congratulations!!!
Only a doubt: the boss on the kite shield entered disuse around 1060 I don't know if this choice is optimal.

About the banner it should not you remember

It's excellent ! Congratulations, you look like an icon !
By the way, the knot on your crossbelt seems pretty similar to some I saw on thirteen century icons, could you make a detailed picture of it ?

Are you sure? I was sure than the kite shields with boss were still available for all the XI and XII centuries and also over (I also asked suggestion to French reenactors than organizes the battle of Malemort in the 1177)... besides the Knight Hospitallers used sometimes old style equipment too (if it was still good and not obsolete, of course).
By the way, the knot on your crossbelt seems pretty similar to some I saw on thirteen century icons, could you make a detailed picture of it ?
For "crossbelt" are you meaning the metal piece for close the belt?

The question is this: I do not know.
Some time ago I made a research about the feasibility of a historical reenactment of the "Statutes of the maritime city of Trani" of 1063. The difficulties is the unavailability of informations about the heraldry relating Trani into the years 1063.
Well!! in 1063 Trani was under siege by the Norman earl Pietro commander of Robert Guiscard's army.
Referring to bayeux tapestry i expounded the problem on the heraldic forum IAGI. I was told to be more give up part of what is because at that time, the heraldry did not exist and that is precisely the boss had entered into disuse.
Who to believe? certain is that pietro da Eboli shows clearly

kiteshields without boss but we are into the second half of century XI.

certain is that they went in Jerusalem post first crusade

Donald Duck! NO He's a Sicilian norman-arab hospitaller knight.

Troppo vaga.

However, when you end the black devil, you provide at me with the informations need to make an equal one (costs, addresses, crafts, etc..). When put the flags if kindly give me the measurements. Definitely I can not deal with the medieval vexilology. Too vague for me.

No, I mean the leather knot on the belt that holds the scabbard.

Uno dei capitelli nel chiostro a Monreale (1175-1182). Notare l'umbone sullo scudo.
one of the carved capitals in the loister at Monreale (1175-1182). You can see the boss on the shield.

For "Black Devil" what do you mean? A specific piece or the costume?
Per "diavolo nero" cosa intendi? Un pezzo specifico o l'intero costume?

Ahhh... now it is clear... sorry but this english language isn't always simple to understand ;)
I will include a bigger picture... It is possible I've done a wrong knot, actually I made it really fast and I'm not sure if is good...

grossomodo ci siamo.
ciao

The Saracens called "black devils " the Hospitaliers.
The black devil is the "character."

Certainly the capital is eloquent but lacks a precise reference to a date. The stonemason also could be inspired by previous models.
However it seems clear one thing: taking account of the bayeaux tapestry and the capital of Monreale, in the 1070's it is started to move from a shield with circular head to a triangular one and that this transition took even the beginning of 1200 having regard to the descrïption made by Peter from Eboli about the delivery of the Emperor Frederick II by Empress Costanza.
we roughly are.
hello
